Video Games

2. Violent video games are linked to youth violence and aggression. I think it is true that violent video games are linked to youth violence and aggression because they are easy to be attracted. When they watch or do something many time they will imitate that thing. Therefore, when they play violence video games they will act violently and become more aggressive. I am strongly believe it is true because my nephew he is addicted to violence video games, everyday he hit his sister the same ways he play the games. 5. Video games are socially isolating. I agree with this statement because all the children who addicted with video games always stay inside their house with their machine. They do not want to go anywhere even school because they only want to play their games. Therefore, they become unsociable people and they may know nothing about the world outside their house. 7. Video games are addictive. Of cause, video games are addictive because no people (men, women, young or old) will stop, after they start to play video game. They want to finish and win their game. They will never give up. After they finish one game, they will seek another new game to play. It is because of all the video game are very convincing with increasing complexity, so the players become more facile and want to know more about it and apply for new skills. They think that they will learn more skills when they win the games.

My reaction to the presentation

After preparing my presentation, I learned how to organize ideas and thoughts, how to make the presentation attractive, especially, I learned what kind of language and expression that I can use when I speak. Understanding topic is the important point that can lead us to do a good presentation. Choosing good examples to prove our information can make audiences interest in our topic too. I think this is a good experience for me to do the next presentation. The day that I finish my presentation, I feel very happy even if I am not sure that it was good or not. When I started my presentation, I feel very nervous. I think at that time I may spoke very quickly. However, when I got into my topic I feel very calm and I feel very confidence on this topic. I can control my speech and speak one by one. I do not know why I always like this, I remember when I did the drug panel in level six, I spoke very fast in the beginning and slowed down when in the middle until the end. At that time, my teacher gave me a feedback that even if she is an English teacher, she could not follow my speaking, too fast. I need to change this habit, but I do not know how I can do. Anyway, I think that I will be able to change this habit one time. I need to think about the proverbs that I talked in my presentation "I am what I think" and "The winner never quits, the quitter never wins". I not only learned from my own presentation, but also I learned many things from listening to the presentations of others. They did very nice presentation. They have different styles of speech. Some of them made their presentation in comical way and some showed a lot of funny picture to attract the audiences that made both presenter and audiences pay attention on the topic and provided many feedbacks and discussion questions at the end of each presentation. I know that the asking question at the end of presentation is very important for the presenter because the questions can make them know that the audiences understand their topic and interested in it. All the presenters need good listeners. However, I do not know why, I rarely ask questions even if I really want to ask. This is another habit, which I need to change.

My research paper

This monday i just finish my first research paper. I feel very happy because it is my first time to do such a research paper like this and this paper teachs me many things. I know how to do the research paper. I need to read a lot and find more information that relate to my topic. I learn how to do the reference citation in the text. I learn how to do the reference list at the end of my paper. During I collect the information i forget to take the source of information so i need to go back and find that information again in order to make my citation and reference list. It is a good experience for me. I know how hard to do the paraphrasing from other articles in order to avoid plagerism. I learn that I need to understand all the information that i put in my paper because after the paper, i have to do a presentation about that. This are some pionts that i learn from my research paper. I will prepare everything for the next paper that I will be given.

Improving Academic Performance

In this article, I really intereasted in the part of Set Up the Schedule for Study because i found that it is a good techniques that can help student in their stuying. All the student always procrastinate, they always wait until the last minute to do theri work. Sometimes, it can be too late for them to do a good work, so they just copy from other books, articles or internet beacuse now the internet information is available. It is not only can help them to do a good job, but also it can make them more healthy. When you do thing in the last minute you will be stressed and overworked. This can cause both physical and psychological problem. If you have set up a schedule for your study, you will have more time to relax. However, in order to set up a good schedule, you need to think carefully about your own energy, especially, you need to know how long that you can study at one time. Don't make yourself busy all the time, give yourself a suitable time to relax. For example, on saturday and sunday, you can set up the time to do your work in morning. Then, at noon time you can relax and go out for a cup of coffee and comeback to continue your work. I also found that "reward your study" is a good techniques too because it may encorage student to do their work. All people always want to get something back after they working hard. For example, if you are a movies lover, you can talk to yourself that after i finish my work i'll have a lot of free time to enjoy my favorite movies. Therefore, you can set your own gaols of your work and then you will get the reward from your self. if you can do like this techniques i think you might be doing well in your study. I will try these two techniques and i believe i will get benifit from these techniques because i'm a procrastinated student, i'm so lazy to do thing in advance, I always wait until the last minute.

Population

I feel optimistic about the future of population because even if population growth is a big problem, there are many ways to solve. For example, many countries are encouraging people to control and reduce the birth rate by telling them the problems that may affect their children's lives. However, many countries faced with overreducing birth rate which can lead to high rate of aging people. There are many elder and younger who are not the productive people. Therefore, nobody can work to improve society and the government have take responsible to this problem. because of this, the pessimistic felling comeout. If the population is still growing up, the big problem will happen in our planet.The planet won't be able to support any more.We won't have enough place to live, enough food to eat, enough energy to use.We will face with runing out of natural resource.The only one solution that can prevent this problem is the industrial countries already accomplished many different solutions to population growth should help other countries.

What is happiness?

It is really hard to define the definition of the word happiness becouse each person has own opinion about this word. Some people said that happiness means money but some said it is not money. There fore, I can give the meaning of this word as everthing arround people that can make them feel confortable with. For instance, some people are really happy when they were shopping and some are reall feel good when they have enough sleep. My Happiness is travelling with my family across country and having a nice big meal.

Lecture: Male and Female Communication Patterns

This lecture is talking about the how male and female use their word to communicate. A lot of experiments have been done in order to find out the differences between male communication and female communiction such how they start, end, present and argue. Then, the Conversational Coherence experiment was set up. The pairs of friends from different grade were sellected and were given 20 minutes conversation. As the result they found that the young boy group didn't talk too much and they couldn't staystill but the girl were paying attention to each other and describe all details about the topic. At the age of 11 to 12 the boys have many topics to discuse while the girls have only afew topics. At the age of 16 to 17 the boys weren't accept others problem they were trying to talk only about their problem but the girl focus on one topic and tried to listen about one problem. The last pairs is the pairs of the age 25, the guys don't have personal reflection but the ladies have personal reflection. According to the TV Dabate we can see that the man are always want to talk alot even they are the experts. The Audience also want to listen to the men, when men say that they are experts, people believe, but when women define themselves as experts, no body believe.The statues also difind the differences between Male Communication and female Communication. When female is the boss, her suggestions are hard to be accepted. However, when the man make suggestions, everybody accept. After I studied this lecture,i found that there are many differences between male and female communication. They all have different styles to communicate, sometimes when the girl use the same expession as the boy but the meaning is not the same. Also the men word are easy to be accepted but the girl ideas are hard to be accepted. All the styles that people use to communicate have advantages. Sometimes, we can take advantages on one style over another style.

Novel Project: Post-Reading Discussion

1. After i finished reading the Novel Alias Grace, I feel very satified because at the first time, I thought that I can't finish this novel as it is very complicated and long. Moreover, I found that I don't understand at all in the begining. However, as long as I read, I started to understand the story. At the end I found that this story is very interesting and also all the problem that i faced in the middle of story are solved at the end. Now, I'm very happy because I've never finished reading as long as this novel. 2. In my opinion the major themes of this novel is as the human being need faced with alot of problem and also this book want to tell us to be careful with our word. somtimes only a word that u speak with thnking can becomes a serious problem. For example, Grace in this book just said that she want Nancy to die. As the result, she was accused to be the mudderer and was put in the prison for nearly 30 years. Therefore, this story give alot of examples that are impotant for the real person's life. 3. The characters in this book is very mixed up. Sometimes I can't identify who was speaking that make me misunderstand and i have to reread it, especially, the first part. However, after i read the middle part I knew who was speaking in the first part. Also, there are a lot of characters that were put to express the story like the doctors in differents places and the husband of Jordan's landlady. 4. The dramatic importance of the plot in this book is not good in the first time because when i read it i felt that i didn't want to continue. It was so boring and the imformation is not related to what i want to to know. On the other hand, the middle of story is very inteesting and it also help me to understand the first part because the author explain all details and made me want to finish this book as fast as i can. It really made me want to know what happend in the end and also the plot in this book is very clear and detail. I can imagine that i was in the situations in the story .

The most interesting point in the language unit

In the language unit, I'm really interested in the effects of age to second language learning. People who began to study second language in their childhood are more likely to be successful than other people. Especially, their pronunciation will be similar to the native speaker. It is because of if they start in childhood, they will have more time to practice and they won't shy to speak their second language. However, if they start when they are adult, they will embarrass about their level of language which is affects their movtivation to continue learning. They will think that they are old but their language is not good so they don't want to practise it.

The novel book that i am reading

On Friday last week, I bought a novel called Alias Grace which is written by Margaret Atwood. It is a complecate and long story. When I just start to read it, I found that I don't understand at all. Especially, the charactors are mixed up. I don't know who is talking about who and aslo who is talking to who. This problem makes it become a boring story and I was falling asleep while I was reading. However, this morning I disscused with my group about the charactors in the book and they explained me by making a charactor's map. So now i have an idea how follow this story. Now I'm reading the next section of the book, I found that it becomes more interesting even I don't understand all the ideas but I hope that after I read more and more i'll understand this story and i'll be able to retell the story. I'll try my best to do this project.

How to be a good language learner?

Learning second language is very dificult for everybody. Especially, speaking is the most important factor in the language learning process. Success or failure will, in the end, be determined by what you yourself contribute. People learn in different ways. Some need to be very analytical: they need a rule for everything. Others are more intuitive: they gather examples and imitate. Some need lots of repetition, others less. Following are some ideas which should prove helpful to us to become a good language learner: PREPARING FOR CLASS Learning a new language involves remembering many rules about grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary. We need establish a regular schedule and stick to it. Strict self-discipline is essential to mastering any language. don't keep on with the same thing until you are bored with it. Try to change the method to study and to practice. VOCABULARY a) Try to remember two or three words a day from the topic b) learn the words in the context of the sentences in the dialogues of the textbook. c) say the words out loud as you study them, use them and practice them. Don't afriad of being corrected. The more mistakes we make, the more we learn. d) associate words with pictures. Try to understand the words by reading the whole sentence. Don't usually use the dictionary, especially, the one that translates the words into our native language. USING CLASS TIME TO YOUR BEST ADVANTAG In the class, we need to open eyes, ears and mouth. Don't be shy to ask question and give ideas. Paying attention while we are lectured in order to get the main ideas of the topic. When we don't understand, try to find help from the instuctor or the classmates. AFTER CLASS -- REVIEWING Reviewing what we learn today to make sure that we understand them. Try to find other imformation that are related to the topic by reading more from newspapers, watching the news program or cheacking from internet. Try to practice what we learn otherwise we will forget them. These are my opinions about how to be a good langauge learner. If you have any ideas to add or to correct my ideas, please do it. I need your help. Sorida
